PRJ4: Inconsistent Behavior Adding Too Many Rows in Dialog Box |
Q113724
In Microsoft Project, you receive different results when you add too many table rows in any of the following dialog boxes:
Bar Styles
Consolidate Projects
Filter Definition
Menu Bars
Table Definition
Microsoft has confirmed this to be a problem in the Microsoft products that are listed at the beginning of this article.
Each of these dialog boxes contains a table, and an Insert Row button that you can use to add rows to the table. The rows in the table represent different items in each dialog box; a bar on the Gantt chart, a file to consolidate, criteria in a filter, a menu item on a menu, and a field in a table. Each dialog box behaves similarly for adding and removing rows. However, if you add too many rows to the table, you do not receive the same results in each of the dialog boxes.
The following is a list of each of these dialog boxes, the maximum number of rows you can add in each, and the behavior that occurs when you exceed this limit in the dialog box.
| Dialog Box | Maximum number of rows | Behavior when maximum number of rows exceeded |
|---|---|---|
| Bar Styles | 20 | No error message, the last bar style in the table drops off the list. |
| Consolidate Projects | 80 | No error message and new row is not added. |
| Filter Definition | 20 | No error message, the last criteria in the table drops off the list. |
| Menu Bars | 245 | Error message: "Too many items in menu bar. Cannot insert any more." |
| Table Definition | 114 | No error message, the last field in the table drops off the list. |
