Subproject File Assigned to a 100% Complete Task Not Updated

Q113770

The information in this article applies to:

SYMPTOMS

When a subproject file is assigned to a task that is 100-percent complete, the master task is not updated to reflect the subproject file's status.

CAUSE

Microsoft Project does not recalculate the status for a task that is 100- percent complete.

RESOLUTION

To work around this situation, set the percent complete for the subproject task in the master file to something less than 100%. Microsoft Project will recalculate the task and display the correct status for the subproject.

STATUS

Microsoft has confirmed this to be a problem in the Microsoft products listed at the beginning of this article.

MORE INFORMATION

Steps to Reproduce Behavior in Version 4.0

  1. Enter in a new task.

  2. From the Insert menu, choose Task Information, change the Percent Complete to 50% and choose OK.

  3. From the File menu, choose New. (You will now be in Project2.)

  4. Enter in a new task.

  5. From the Insert menu, choose Task Information, change the Percent Complete to 100% and choose OK. Select the Advanced tab and in the subproject filename field type PROJECT1.

The subproject task in the master project (Project2) will display 100- percent complete even though the task in the subproject (Project1) is 50- percent complete.
