Duplicate Resource Listed in Using Resource Filter Dialog Box

Q113773

The information in this article applies to:

SYMPTOMS

In Microsoft Project, when you apply the Using Resource filter to multiple projects in a visually merged window, and two or more of the projects are using a resource with the same name, the resource appears multiple times in the Show Tasks Using list in the Using Resource filter dialog box.

CAUSE

When you apply the Using Resource filter to projects in a visually merged window, the Show Tasks Using list contains the names of all the resources that are assigned to a task in the visually merged window. The resources used by each project are listed, even if two or more projects are using a resource with the same name. This behavior causes duplicate resource names to appear in the list. However, you can choose any of the duplicate names to filter the tasks in the visually merged window that are using this resource, regardless of which project they are assigned to.

Note that the resources in the list are ordered alphabetically, so that the duplicate names appear together in the list.

Steps to Reproduce Behavior

  1. In a new project, enter a task T1. Select T1.

  2. From the Standard toolbar, choose the Resource Assignment button. In the Name box, type Res1 and press ENTER. Choose Assign.

  3. From the File menu, choose New to create a new project. Enter a task, T2 and select T2.

  4. Repeat Step 2.

  5. From the View menu, choose New Window. From the Projects list, select Project1, press the CTRL key and select Project2. Choose OK.

  6. From the Tools menu, choose Filtered For, and then choose Using Resource.

In the Show Tasks Using list, Res1 appears twice.

STATUS

Microsoft has confirmed this to be a problem in the Microsoft products that are listed at the beginning of this article.
