SYMPTOMS
In the Finder, double-clicking a document icon does not open the document.
Instead, the program associated with the document is started (or becomes
the active application) with an Untitled or New document window.
Documents are opened correctly if you open them from within their
applications by clicking Open the File menu.
RESOLUTION
To correct this problem, reinstall the Macintosh system software. Prior to
reinstalling the system software, remove the System file from the System
Folder and place it on the desktop. Moving the System file to the desktop
prevents corrupted resources in the old System file from being transferred
to the new System file during installation.
Contact Apple Computer Inc. to report the problem.
MORE INFORMATION
