SYMPTOMS

When you run Windows NT on a Gateway 2000 P5-60, the following error message may appear:
STOP Xc0000221 Bad Image Checksum
The image <filename> is possibly corrupt. The header checksum does not match the computer checksum.
This error message appears when you start your computer, while CHKDSK is running or immediately afterward.

CAUSE

There are two IDE connectors located on the motherboard in that system, one is a PCI IDE interface, the other is an ISA IDE interface. The error message appears intermittently when the hard disk is set up for IDE Multiple sector mode 64 S/B.

WORKAROUND

To work around this problem, move the cable to the ISA IDE connector located parallel to the floppy connector and/or change the IDE Multiple Sector Mode in the Advanced CMOS from 64 S/B to 32 S/B. The Advanced CMOS configuration should be as follows:
   IDE DMA type F
IDE Multiple sector mode 32 S/B
   IDE Localbus enabled
