SYMPTOMS

In Microsoft Project, when you create a resource in a project that is sharing resources from a resource pool, the resource is added at the default standard and overtime rates that are set in the resource pool.

CAUSE

When you change the Default Standard Rate and Default Overtime Rate option, and choose the Set As Default button, the new rates are used in the current project file, and in any new project you create. However, these default rates are not used in project files that you have already created.

Additionally, when you add a resource to a project that is sharing resources from a resource pool, the resource is added to the resource pool at the default rate that is set in the pool.

WORKAROUND

To add a resource to a project, using the Default Standard and Overtime Rate from the project instead of the resource pool, do either of the following:

Note that when you use either of these methods, the resource you add is stored with the local project file, so that they are available in the project file, even when the resource pool is not open.

Steps to Reproduce Behavior

  1. In a new project, choose New from the File menu to create another new project.

  2. From the View menu, choose Resource Sheet.

  3. From the Tools menu, choose Multiple Projects, and then choose Share Resources. Select the Share Resources option, and select Project1 from the From list.

  4. From the Tools menu, choose Options. Select the General tab. In the Default Standard Rate box, type $30. In the Default Overtime Rate box, type $30. Choose the Set As Default button and choose OK.

  5. In the Resource Name column in Project2, type Res1 and press ENTER.

The Std. Rate and Ovt. Rate columns for Res1 both contain "$0.00" instead of the default value of "$30.00" that you set for Project2.
