SYMPTOMS

In Microsoft Project, when you use the Consolidate Projects dialog box to change the order of projects in a consolidated project, the projects along with their tasks and resources are not listed in this same order in the lower pane of a split pane view.

STATUS

Microsoft has confirmed this to be a problem in the Microsoft products that are listed at the beginning of this article.

MORE INFORMATION

When you consolidate project files, and you split the view so that the Gantt Chart is in both the upper and lower panes, the order that the projects appear in the lower pane is the same as the order of the projects in the New Window dialog box.

Steps to Reproduce Behavior

  1. In a new project, enter a task, T1.

  2. From the File menu, choose New. In the new project, enter a task, T2.

  3. From the Window menu, choose New Window. From the Projects list, select Project1, press CTRL, and select Project 2. Choose OK.

  4. From the Window menu, choose Split. Select the view in the lower pane, and choose Gantt Chart from the View menu.

  5. From the Tools menu, choose Multiple Projects, and then choose Consolidate Projects. Choose Yes to edit the existing consolidated project.

  6. In the Consolidate Projects dialog box, select Project1, and press the down arrow button under Move to move Project1 below Project2 in the File Name list. Choose OK.

  7. In the view in the upper pane, select the Task Name column.

The projects appear in the upper pane in the order in which they appear in the Consolidate Project dialog box. However, in the lower pane, Project1 is listed before Project2.
