Resource Work Units Don't Update to Work Default Units

SYMPTOMS

In Microsoft Project, when you assign a resource to a task, and you then change the default work units, the resource Overtime Work and Actual Work fields are not updated to the new units in the Task Form when you change the resource work.

To view all the resource work values with the same units, do either of the following:

In Microsoft Project, you can change the default work units for your project by selecting the units from the Show Work In list on the Schedule tab of the Options dialog box.

In Microsoft Project version 3.0, you can make this change by setting the Default Work Units value to the desired units in the Preferences dialog box. Note that in Microsoft Project version 3.0, this behavior only occurs with the Overtime Work field.

Steps to Reproduce Behavior Microsoft Project 4.0

  1. In a new project, choose Options from the Tools menu. Select the Schedule tab, and from the Show Work In list, select Days. Choose OK.


  2. Enter a task, T1, with a duration of 1d. Select T1.


  3. From the Standard toolbar, choose the Resource Assignment button. In the Name column, type Res1 and press ENTER. Choose the Assign button.


  4. From the Window menu, choose Split. Select the view in the lower pane. From the Format menu, choose Details, and then choose Resource Work.


  5. From the Tools menu, choose Options. Select the Schedule tab, and from the Show Work In list, select Hours. Choose OK.


  6. In the Task form, in the Percent Complete box for T1, type 25. In the Work column for Res1, type 16, and choose OK.


The Overtime Work and Actual Work values are still in units of days while Work, Baseline Work, and Remaining Work values are in units of hours.
