SYMPTOMS

When you balance your account with a bank statement, you may receive the following error message:
The starting balance entered from your statement does not match the starting balance calculated from your Money records.

CAUSE

This behavior may occur if one of the following conditions is true:
  • The wrong statement was used to enter the Starting Balance.
  • A reconciled transaction was changed or deleted since the last time that the account was balanced.
  • The Beginning Account Balance was changed since the last time that the account was balanced.
The Ending Balance from a reconciled statement must carry over as the Starting Balance the next time that the account is balanced.

RESOLUTION

Make sure that no transactions from earlier statements have been changed or deleted from the Account Register or from the Account Book. If a transaction is changed or deleted, click Continue, type the changed or deleted transactions, and then mark the transactions as reconciled. To do this, use one of the following methods:
  • Select each transaction, and then press CTRL+SHIFT+M.
  • Right-click the transaction, point to Mark As, and then click Reconciled.
If you do not know which of the transactions have been changed or deleted, press CTRL+SHIFT+M to unreconcile each transaction on last month's statement, and then re-reconcile.
