GP Fault Printing to the HP DeskJet 310 (DESKJETP.DRV) |
Q114026
When you print from Word for Windows to a Hewlett-Packard (HP) DeskJet 310 Portable printer, a general protection (GP) fault may occur if the Background Printing option is selected. (To locate the Background Printing option, choose Options from the Tools menu and select the Print tab.)
The HP DeskJet 310 driver (DESKJETP.DRV) is incompatible with the
Background Printing option in Word. By default, the Background Printing
option is turned on for this printer in Word 6.0.
Note: In Word 6.0 and 6.0a, Background Printing is turned on for the
HPDSKJET.DRV (versions 2.0 and 2.1), DJ500C.DRV (versions 2.0 and 2.1), and
DESKJET.DRV (versions 3.0 and 3.1), so similar problems may occur when you
print to the HP DeskJet, DeskJet 500, DeskJet 500C, and DeskJet 550C
printers. For more information about background printing problems with
these printers, query on the following words in the Microsoft Knowledge

Microsoft has confirmed this to be a problem in Word for Windows. This problem was corrected in versions 6.0a and later of Word for Windows. In Word 6.0a and later, the Background Printing option is turned off and disabled when you are using the DeskJet 310 Portable printer driver (DESKJETP.DRV). NOTE: Background printing is also disabled for the DESKJETC.DRV printer driver in both Word 6.0 and 6.0a.
To print on the HP DeskJet 310 Portable printer from Word 6.0, use the following instructions to turn off the Background Printing option:
