Project: Remaining Duration Hours Calculated Incorrectly

The information in this article applies to:

SYMPTOMS

When you track progress in a project in which the Show Duration In field is set equal to hours, the project statistics for Remaining Duration and Current Schedule are not calculated correctly.


WORKAROUND

To work around this problem, change the Show Duration In option to days instead of hours (Microsoft Project will round off the number of hours correctly if they are displayed in days rather than hours).


STATUS

Microsoft has confirmed this to be a problem in the Microsoft products listed at the beginning of this article.

Steps to Reproduce Behavior in Microsoft Project 4.0

  1. From the Tools menu, choose Options and select the Schedule tab.


  2. Set Show Duration In to Hours, and choose OK.


  3. Enter three tasks with eight hours of duration each.


  4. Link the 3 tasks.


  5. Set the first two tasks to 100% Complete.


  6. From the File menu, choose Summary Info.


  7. Choose the Statistics button.


Remaining Duration for the project is 7.98 hours and Current Schedule is 23.98 hours. The correct duration is 8 hours for Remaining Duration and 24 hours for Current Schedule.
