Text Only Exports Carriage Returns and Linefeeds Incorrectly |
Q114797
When you save a Word document as Text Only or as MS-DOS Text, a carriage
return without linefeed (CR) or a linefeed without carriage return (LF) is
written into the output text file. This occurs when the document contains a
section break immediately preceded by or followed by a page break or
newline character.
Word should instead always export matching carriage-return/linefeed (CR/LF)
combinations.
Microsoft has confirmed this to be a problem in the Word versions listed at the beginning of this article. This problem was corrected in Word versions 7.0 and later for Windows 95.
This problem does NOT occur with the following save options: Text Only With Line Breaks, MS-DOS Text With Linebreaks, Text With Layout, and MS-DOS Text With Layout. Therefore, if carriage-return/linefeed insertions at the end of each line in an output text file does not represent a problem for you, use one of these export options instead of the Text Only or MS-DOS Text save options.
