PRJ4: Fit Timescale To Page Problem w/Timescale Units in Months

Q115099

The information in this article applies to:

SYMPTOMS

The Fit Timescale To Page option in the View tab in the Page Setup dialog box does not allow you to scale correctly when Units is set to Months in the Minor Timescale area. This also occurs when Units in the Major Timescale area is set to Months and Units in the Minor Timescale area is set to None.

CAUSE

Steps to Reproduce Behavior:

  1. Create 10 tasks, set the duration for each to 25d, and link them finish to start.

  2. From the Format menu, choose Timescale and set Units in the Major Timescale to Months and Units in the Minor Timescale to None. Choose OK.

  3. From the File menu, choose Page Setup, select the View tab and clear the Fit Timescale To Page Option.

  4. Choose the Print Preview button, and then choose the Multiple Page icon.

NOTE: The last two tasks are on page 2.

  5. Choose the Page Setup button, select the Fit Timescale To Page option. Choose OK.

Expected Result: Printout is scaled to one page.

Actual Result: Printout is scaled, but a small portion of the last task is still on page 2; therefore, an extra page will be printed.

The following is a second example where scaling is increased instead of decreased:

  1. Using the file in the first example, delete the last four tasks.

  2. From the File menu, choose Page Setup, select the View tab and clear the Fit Timescale To Page Option. Choose the Print Preview button.

NOTE: All tasks fit on one page.

  3. Choose the Page Setup button, select the Fit Timescale To Page option, and then choose OK.

Expected result: Printout is scaled so tasks more nearly fill the page.

Actual Result: Printout is scaled too much, so the last tasks go to a second page.

RESOLUTION

Choose a different timescale unit. The other timescale units scale correctly.
