Opening Word for OS/2 Documents in Word 6.0 for Windows

Q115168

The information in this article applies to:

From Word 6.0 or 6.0a for Windows, when you open a Word for OS/2 document that is saved in Word for OS/2 Normal file format, Word displays the following message:
Word for Windows is opening a Word for OS/2 document.
(This document may be fully converted by saving as a Word for Windows document from within Word for OS/2.)
Choose the OK button, and Word will open the Word for OS/2 document.

To avoid the message, save the Word for OS/2 document in Word for Windows format. To do this:

  1. In Word for OS/2, choose Save As from the File menu.

  2. Choose the Options button.

  3. In the Format box, choose Word for Windows, and choose the OK button.

This saves the document in Word 1.1 for Windows file format, which Word 6.0 for Windows reads automatically without the use of a converter. (Word 6.0 simply opens the Word 1.1 documents.)
