Timescale Labels with "From Start" Format Printed Incorrectly |
Q115240
The information in this article applies to:
-
Microsoft Project for Windows, version 4.0
SYMPTOMS
The timescale in a Gantt Chart may appear to be incorrect when you print your file or view it in print preview, if the following conditions are true:
- Either the major or minor timescale units labels are set to "count"
from the start or end. For example, you may have selected the "Day1,
Day2,...(From Start)" option.
NOTE: Any unit using "...(From Start or From Finish)" can
affect the way the document is printed and how it appears in print
preview. The Label is determined by the way you set the Unit option.
For example, if the Unit is set to Months, then the Label is
"Month1, Month2...(From Start)."
-and-
- The Date From option has been selected in the Print
dialog box, and it contains a date earlier than the project start
date.
-or-
- The timescale units are months and weeks and either unit uses a
counting label. The problem occurs if the week unit straddles two
months and the project is set to start in the first week of the
month.
RESOLUTION
To avoid this problem, use any of the following methods.
Method 1
Use a timescale unit other than (From Start) or (From End).
Method 2
Print starting from the project start date (not earlier or later than the start date).
NOTE: To avoid the problem if your timescale units are months and weeks and either unit uses a counting label, use either Method 3 or Method 4.
Method 3
Adjust your project start date so that no tasks are scheduled within the first week of the month.
For example, if your project starts May 1, 1995, the first week of the month begins April 30 and ends May 6th; it straddles two months. To prevent the problem, start your project May 7th or later.
Method 4
Change your unit labels so that neither uses a counting label.
-or-
Change the minor timescale so that it uses a unit other than weeks, or remove the minor timescale. (To display only the major scale, in the Timescale dialog box, select a major scale unit and then select None for the minor scale unit.)
STATUS
Microsoft has confirmed this to be a problem in the Microsoft products listed
at the beginning of this article. This problem was corrected in Microsoft Project for Windows 95.
MORE INFORMATION
This behavior occurs both when you print a document and when you view it in
print preview; however, the Gantt Chart view shows the task on Day 1. This
same behavior occurs in reports that use this timescale unit (such as the
Crosstab Report).
