The information in this article applies to:
SYMPTOMSIn Microsoft Excel, if you increase the size of a chart legend, the size of the legend is proportionately too large in the chart sample area in the User-Defined Autoformats dialog box, and the Format <charttype> Group dialog box. Additionally, if you increase the size of the legend to approximately one-fourth the size of the chart plot area, only the legend appears in the sample area in these dialog boxes.
CAUSEThis behavior occurs because a chart legend is not scaled with the chart plot area when you view a sample of the chart in the User-Defined Autoformats dialog box, or the Format <charttype> Group dialog box. Therefore, when you size a chart legend, the legend displays proportionately larger on the chart sample in these dialog boxes.
WORKAROUNDThe only way you can avoid this behavior is by not scaling your chart legend. If you have scaled your chart legend, you can restore the legend to the default size with the following steps:
