PUB: Unwanted Characters Appear in Place of Tab Leaders

------------------------------------------------------------------------- The information in this article applies to: - Microsoft Publisher for Windows, versions 1.0, 1.0a, 2.0, 2.0a - Microsoft Publisher for Windows 95, version 3.0 ------------------------------------------------------------------------- SYMPTOMS ======== When you print to an inkjet or dot-matrix printer in landscape orientation from Microsoft Publisher, unwanted characters, such as brackets, may appear on the page in place of tab leaders. RESOLUTION ========== Do the following with an unlinked text box. (If your text box is linked, see the "Linked Text Boxes" section below.) 1. Select the text frame that contains the unwanted printed characters. 2. From the Edit menu, choose Cut Text Frame. This will move the text to the Windows Clipboard. 3. From the Edit menu, choose Paste Special, and select Picture. The new text should print correctly. Note the text will no longer be in a format that Publisher can edit because the object has been transformed to a metafile picture. Linked Text Boxes ----------------- This workaround only works with unlinked text boxes. If you try this workaround with linked text boxes, the text box you paste (using step 3 above) will be blank. Only unlinked text boxes paste with text inside them. To preserve a copy of the text box that you can edit later, drag the text box into the scratch area, and then copy it and paste it as a picture. MORE INFORMATION ================ Microsoft has confirmed this to be a problem in Publisher. We are researching this problem and will post new information here in the Microsoft Knowledge Base as it becomes available.
