SYMPTOMS

Line spacing may be irregular when you use mixed-case text or certain types of punctuation formatted with the Small Capitals option.

MORE INFORMATION

Steps to Reproduce Problem

  1. Create a text frame in Publisher that is approximately 2 inches square.
  2. From the Format menu, choose Character.
  3. In the Effects section of the Character dialog box, select Small Capitals. Choose OK.
  4. In a text frame, type three lines of random words without apostrophes and without using the SHIFT key. The spacing between all lines should be even.
  5. Click a word in the middle line, and type an apostrophe.
Notice that the spacing between the middle line of text and the top line of text increases. Presently, the only workaround is to use the All Capitals option in the Character dialog box, and then reduce the point size.

STATUS

Microsoft has confirmed this to be a problem in the Microsoft products listed at the beginning of this article. This problem was corrected in Microsoft Publisher 98 for Windows.
