-------------------------------------------------------------------
The information in this article applies to:
- Microsoft Publisher versions 2.0 CD and 2.0a CD
-------------------------------------------------------------------
SYMPTOMS
========
When trying to use the Logo Creator Plus PageWizard design assistant
shipped with Microsoft Publisher 2.0a CD (disc assembly number 164-052-
006), you will receive the following error message:
Can't load PageWizard design assistant
Publisher couldn't start the PageWizard design assistant. You may
be out of memory, or your design assistants may not be installed
correctly. PageWizard design assistants can be reinstalled using
the Setup program. You can save your work and close down other
applications to free up memory, or press F1 now to see more
information on running Setup.
CAUSE
=====
The first build of Microsoft Publisher 2.0a CD with disc assembly
numbers 164-052-005 or 164-052-006 include a corrupt MSPGLOGO.WIZ file.
RESOLUTION
==========
To resolve this problem:
1. Delete MSPGLOGO.WIZ from your hard disk. This file should reside in
the Publisher PAGEWIZ subdirectory (MSPUB/PAGEWIZ by default).
2. Reinstall Publisher 2.0 (or 2.0a) using any other media BUT the CD
with disc assembly number 164-052-006. (That is, install Publisher using
the Publisher 2.0 disks or a Publisher 2.0 CD with disc assembly number
164-052-002 or 164-052-010.)
NOTE: Do NOT use CD disc assembly number 164-052-006 for this step.
3. Check to make sure the Logo Creator Plus PageWizard is functioning
properly. To do this, select the PageWizard tool from Publisher's
toolbar, choose Logo Creator Plus, then drag a box on the page. If
the Logo Creator PageWizard does not return the error described
above, proceed to step 4.
4. Install Publisher 2.0a CD. This process will not replace the
good MSPGLOGO.WIZ file with the bad MSPGLOGO.WIZ file. Therefore, the
installation will be Publisher 2.0a CD, but the MSPGLOGO.WIZ file
will be retained from the previous installation and will work
correctly.
MORE INFORMATION
================
The disc assembly number is printed on the non-shiny part of the CD.
The bad MSPGLOGO.WIZ will likely have the date of 9/27/93 and a file
size of 167,248 bytes.
Gateway also bundles a program CD with some of its machines containing
Publisher 2.0 (CD assembly number 164-052-006). This CD has the Publisher
file MSPGLOGO.WIZ dated 11/18/93, byte count 167,248. This file also
doesn't work correctly. To solve this problem, install the copy of
MSPGLOGO.WIZ that ships with Publisher 2.0a.
