The information in this article applies to:

SUMMARY

When attempting to connect from a Microsoft SQL GUI (Graphical User Interface) tool to a non-Microsoft SQL Server, you will receive the error:

Cannot connect to that server operating system platform.

These tools include, but are not limited to, ISQL/W, SQL Administrator, and SQL Object Manager. This is intended design behavior as these tools are not supported against non-Microsoft server platforms. An exception is SQL Transfer Manager, where the source server can be a non-Microsoft SQL Server.
