WD6X: MacWord SET & ASK References Become MERGEFIELDS in Word 6x |
Q115605
A field in a Word 5.x for the Macintosh print merge main document that
references the result of a SET or ASK field is converted to a MERGEFIELD
field in Word 6.0. The expected behavior is that it would become a REF
field in a document or main document and a MERGEFIELD only if originating
from a print merge data document.
For example, if a Word 5.1a for the Macintosh document contains the
following:
<<ASK name=? What is your name?>>When you display the field codes, you would expect to see:
<<name>>
{ASK name "What is your name?"}
{REF name}
Instead, the field codes appear as:
{ASK name "What is your name?"}
{MERGEFIELD name}
The MERGEFIELD field produces the same result as the REF field, so no workaround is necessary.
Microsoft has confirmed this to be a problem in the product versions listed at the beginning of this article. This problem was corrected in Microsoft Word for Windows 95, version 7.0.
