Text Lost When Opening WordPerfect Master Documents |
Q116222
When you open a WordPerfect master document in Word 6.0 for Windows, you receive the following error message:
If all the contents of the master document originated from subdocuments and you choose Yes to the above prompt, an empty document appears. Any text originally entered directly into the WordPerfect master document is retained. The subdocument <path><filename> is missing. Do you want to open the master document without the subdocument?
This error occurs when the master document's subdocuments are not available in their original directory location(s) when a path is used in creating the master document, or in the same directory as the master document when no path is specified.
Microsoft has confirmed this to be a problem in the WordPerfect converter supplied with Word versions 6.0 and 6.0a for Windows. We are researching this problem and will post new information here in the Microsoft Knowledge Base as it becomes available.
WordPerfect 5.1 for DOS and WordPerfect 5.1 and 5.2 for Windows include an
option to expand or condense a master document.
When a master document is condensed, all that is shown in the document is
the paths and filenames for supporting subdocuments.
When a master document is expanded, the contents of supporting subdocuments
are embedded in a master document. An expanded master document can
therefore be opened in WordPerfect without availability of the
corresponding subdocuments, and the text originating from the subdocuments
will still appear.
