Wrong Formatting Appears in Cross-Reference

SYMPTOMS
Incorrect formatting may appear in a cross-reference after you update the
cross-reference if the first letter of the heading text being referenced is
formatted in a large point size. Formatting on the first letter of the
referenced text is applied to the entire first word where it appears in a
cross-reference.
STATUS
Microsoft is researching this problem, and we will post new information
here in the Microsoft Knowledge Base as it becomes available.
WORKAROUND
To avoid this problem, do the following:
- Display the field code (ALT+F9) of the cross-reference.
- Remove \* MERGEFORMAT from the field.
- Press F9 to update the field.
- Display the field result (ALT+F9).
