Page Formatting Not Retained in Clipboard After Exiting Word |
Q116366
If you copy all or part of a Word for Windows document to the Windows
Clipboard, quit and restart Word, and then paste the document from the
Clipboard into a new document, Word does not retain the document's page
formatting (specifically, margins and paper size). Word frequently changes
the paper size to a custom size.
Other document formatting--such as styles, page orientation, and headers
and footers--does not change.
This problem does not occur when you copy a document from Word 1.x or 2.x
for Windows and paste it into Word 6.0.
Quitting Word 6.0 removes some of the formatting information from the Word document on the Windows Clipboard. When you restart Word and paste the document, Word applies new formatting to replace the missing formatting.
Microsoft has confirmed this to be a problem in Word 6.0 and 6.0a for Windows. This problem was corrected in Word version 6.0 for Windows NT. This problem was corrected in Word version 7.0 for Windows 95.
Method 1:
Paste the text in a new Word document before you quit Word.Method 2:
Open a second instance of Word and paste the text into a document before you close the first instance of Word.
