SYMPTOMSIn Microsoft Excel, when you format the area color on a chart legend, the legend text background appears either transparent or opaque, depending on the area color and the text color that you choose.
CAUSEThis behavior occurs because, by default, the text background option for a chart legend is set to Automatic. This means that when the legend area color is the same as the legend text color, the text background appears opaque. Otherwise, the legend text background appears transparent.
WORKAROUNDSTo change the text background option for a legend to opaque or transparent, follow the appropriate procedure below for your version of Microsoft Excel.
