XL5: Can't Turn Off Sized With Window After Chart Move or Copy

Last reviewed: September 12, 1996
Article ID: Q117176
The information in this article applies to:
  • Microsoft Excel for Windows, versions 5.0, 5.0c
  • Microsoft Excel for the Macintosh, versions 5.0, 5.0a

SYMPTOMS

In Microsoft Excel, when you copy or move a chart sheet to a new workbook, and you select the Sized With Window command from the View menu in the chart sheet either before or after you copy or move the chart, you cannot turn the Sized With Window option off in the chart in the new workbook.

CAUSE

This behavior occurs only when you move or copy a chart to a new workbook. The behavior occurs because, when you move or copy a chart to a new workbook, the workbook does not contain any worksheets, and does not recognize that there is a printer installed in Microsoft Windows. This printer information is necessary in order to turn off the Sized With Window option after you select it.

WORKAROUNDS

To work around this behavior and turn off the Sized With Window command, do either of the following:

  • In the new workbook that contains the chart, choose Page Setup from the File menu, and choose OK.

    -or-

  • Save and close the new workbook that contains the chart, and then open the workbook again.

STATUS

Microsoft has confirmed this to be a problem in the Microsoft products listed at the beginning of this article. We are researching this problem and will post new information here in the Microsoft Knowledge Base as it becomes available.
