The information in this article applies to:
  • Microsoft Excel for Windows, versions 4.0, 4.0a, 5.0, 5.0c
  • Microsoft Excel for the Macintosh, versions 4.0, 5.0, 5.0a

SUMMARY

In Microsoft Excel, the maximum allowable page number is 32767 and the minimum allowable page number is -32765.

MORE INFORMATION

This limitation is apparent in the following situations:

  • When you change the First Page Number (version 5.0) or the Start Page No.'s At (version 4.0) box in Page Setup, the range of numbers that may be entered is from -32765 to 32767. Attempting to enter a number outside of this range will result in the following error message:

          Number is not valid.

  • If your worksheet is using page numbers that are near the upper limit, you may notice that the page numbers "wrap around" and become negative once the page numbers exceed 32767. The sequence of page numbers goes like this:

         32765, 32766, 32767, -32768, -32767, -32766, and so on
