SYMPTOMS

When you apply a border to a multipage table using the Table AutoFormat command, the top and bottom table borders may display and print incorrectly.

If the table contains a heading row, the top border will appear on the first and subsequent pages, while the bottom table border will be missing on all but the last page of the table. If the table does not contain a heading row, the top border will print only on the first page of the table, and the bottom border will print only on the last page of the table.

CAUSE

The Table AutoFormat command is manually applying a line border to each side of the table. The top and bottom borders are not repeating on subsequent pages when the table splits across multiple pages.

STATUS

Microsoft has confirmed this to be a problem in Word versions 6.0, 6.0a, 6.0c, and 7.0 for Windows. We are researching this problem and will post new information here in the Microsoft Knowledge Base as it becomes available.

WORKAROUND

If you have applied borders using the Table AutoFormat feature, first remove the borders. To do this:

Place your insertion point in the table.
From the Table menu, choose Table Autoformat.
Under Formats, select (none) and choose OK.

NOTE: You can also remove autoformatting by choosing Borders And Shading from the Format menu, selecting None under Presets, and choosing OK.

Once the borders are removed, reapply them using the Borders And Shading command on the Format menu.
