Compare Versions Doesn't Work with File with No Extension |
Q117695
In Word 6.0, when you compare one version of a document to another document
that does not have an extension, Word does not mark any revisions in the
first document.
In Word 2.x, when you compare a document that has an extension to one that
does not, Word generates the following error if the document does not
include a period after the filename:
If the filename includes a period, Word 2.x marks the revisions but does not indicate whether the revisions were deleted or added. This document does not exist.
Microsoft has confirmed this to be a problem in Word versions 2.x, 6.0, and 6.0a for Windows. We are researching this problem and will post new information here in the Microsoft Knowledge Base as it becomes available.
Rename the file that does not have an extension so that it includes an extension; then run Compare Versions.
