Cinemania/Encarta: Installation Hangs on Macintosh Performa

SYMPTOMS

If you install Cinemania or Encarta on a Macintosh Performa, your computer may stop responding (hang) when you click the Restart button in the "Installation Successful" dialog box. This problem can occur if you are using version 7.1P5 or earlier of the Performa System software.

This is a known problem with versions 7.1P5 and earlier of the Performa System software.

NOTE: You do not need to reinstall the application if your machine hangs when you click Restart. The application is already successfully installed before the machine hangs.

RESOLUTION

To avoid this problem, do one of the following before installing Cinemania or Encarta:
  • Upgrade to version 7.1P6 or newer of the Performa System software.

    -or-
  • Restart your Macintosh with all extensions turned off except for the CD-ROM extensions.
NOTE: To restart your Macintosh after it has hung, turn it off via the power switch, wait 10 to 15 seconds, and then restart it.
