Office: Upgrade Over 4.0 Leaves Icons in Office Group |
Q118403
If you install Microsoft Office versions 4.2 or 4.3 over an existing installation of Microsoft Office version 4.0, some of the icons from Microsoft Office version 4.0 may not be removed.
Microsoft has confirmed this to be a problem in the Microsoft Products listed at the beginning of this article. We are researching this problem and will post new information here in the Microsoft Knowledge Base as it becomes available.
Microsoft Office Setup will remove the executable files for applications
not installed with the selected installation method; however, it will not
remove the icons for those applications.
For example, if you perform a Typical installation of Microsoft Office
version 4.0, and you then upgrade that installation with a Typical
installation of Microsoft Office version 4.2 or 4.3, the icons for
Microsoft PowerPoint 3.0, Viewer, and Graphics Link icons will still be in
the Microsoft Office group, but they will have generic icons because the
executable files associated with are deleted.
