SUMMARY

To switch the NUM LOCK (or CLEAR) toggle key on or off in Word version 6.0 for the Macintosh, you must press SHIFT+NUM LOCK (or SHIFT+CLEAR).

There is no NUM LOCK indicator in the status bar in Word 6.0 (this differs from earlier versions of Word for the Macintosh). However, the NUM LOCK light on the keyboard does work.

MORE INFORMATION

This change was made from previous versions of Word to maintain consistency between Office programs. Most Macintosh extended keyboards have a key on the numeric keypad that is labeled with both the word "clear" and "num lock". "Num lock" appears superscripted above "clear" indicating that it requires the SHIFT key. Word 6.0 uses both features of the key because pressing the CLEAR key will remove selected text and pressing the key with the SHIFT key held down will toggle the state of the numeric keypad.
