Linked Object in Works WP May Not Appear to Update Properly

NOTE: An OLE link that updates information automatically in the Word Processor (OLE container) when it is changed in a source document (OLE server) is known as a "hot" link.

For example, assume a Works Word Processor document contains a linked Works spreadsheet chart. When the Word Processor document is opened, a dialog box appears asking if you want to "update links now." If the spreadsheet is already open when you choose OK, the Word Processor recognizes that the source document is open and establishes a hot link.

If the source file is not open, the hot link is not established even though the information in the object is updated correctly upon opening. Because the Word Processor does not watch to see if the source files of any OLE objects have been opened, hot links are never automatically re-established.

Steps to Reproduce Problems

1. Create a new spreadsheet in Works and type some numbers in cells A1:A5.
2. Save the spreadsheet.
3. Select cells A1:A5 and choose Copy from the Edit menu.
4. Create a new Works Word Processor document.
5. From the Edit menu, choose Paste Special.
6. Choose Paste Link, then choose OK. In Works 2.0, select Microsoft Works Spreadsheet from the Data Type box.
7. Save the Word Processor document.
8. Close both files and save the changes to the spreadsheet.
9. Open the Word Processor document, then open the spreadsheet.
10. From the Window menu, select Tile so the documents are side-by-side on the screen.
11. Change the information in the spreadsheet.

Notice that changing the numbers in A1:A5 in the spreadsheet does not automatically update the OLE object in the Word Processor.
