SYMPTOMS
Subproject tasks in a master project finish one minute early when the
subproject files are closed.
CAUSE
The above problem may occur in the master project when the following
conditions are true:
- The subproject file is closed.
-and-
- The subproject has more than one task.
-and-
- The subproject has at least one task that has started (% Complete is
greater than 0).
-and-
- Of the tasks in the subproject that have not started, at least one
has a finish date that is different from the tasks that have
begun.
STATUS
Microsoft has confirmed this to be a problem in the Microsoft products that are listed
at the beginning of this article.

Steps to Reproduce Behavior in version 4.0
- From the File menu, choose New to start a new
project.
- Enter two tasks, T1 and T2, and enter 1% complete on task T1.
- Change the duration on task T2 so that its finish date is either
later or earlier than the finish date of task T1.
- From the File menu, choose Save. Enter the name
SUB.MPP, and choose OK.
- From the File menu, choose New to start a new project,
and enter a task, T1.
- Double-click the task to display the Task Information dialog
box. Select the Advanced tab, and enter SUB.MPP as the
subproject name. Choose OK.
- From the File menu, choose Save. Enter the name
MASTER.MPP, and choose OK.
Note the finish date of task T1 in the master project.
- From the File menu, choose Close to close MASTER.MPP.
Choose Close again to close SUB.MPP.
- From the File menu, choose Open. Select MASTER.MPP and
choose OK.
Observe the finish date of task T1. It is now one minute earlier than it
was previously.
