"Error Creating Publisher" After Canceling Publisher

SYMPTOMS

In Microsoft Excel, when you create a publisher, and you then cancel the publisher, if you publish to the same edition again, with the same cell range, you receive the following error message: 

   Error creating publisher. No publisher was created.

CAUSE

This behavior occurs if you do not save the publisher file after canceling the publisher. This behavior occurs because the published edition is not deleted until you save the published document. You cannot publish to an existing edition without changing the published cell range.

WORKAROUNDS

To avoid receiving this error message when you create a publisher, do either of the following:

  • Save the file after you cancel the publisher

    -or-

  • Give the published edition a different name than the edition of the canceled publisher.
