SYMPTOMS

In Microsoft Excel, if you increase the height of a horizontal Scroll Bar control, or increase the width of a vertical Scroll Bar control, the control may appear incorrectly on the screen. For example, the scroll box that appears in the Scroll Bar may appear on top of one of the Scroll Bar arrows.

CAUSE

This behavior occurs when you move the Scroll Bar arrows closer together on the scroll bar. The arrows move closer together as you increase the height of a horizontal Scroll Bar, or increase the width of a vertical Scroll Bar.

WORKAROUND

To avoid having a Scroll Bar appear incorrectly on the screen, do either of the following:

  • Use the Spinner control if you want a control with the appearance of two closely spaced arrow buttons.

    -or-

  • Avoid increasing the height of a horizontal Scroll Bar, or the width of a Vertical Scroll bar. If you want to increase the overall size of a Scroll Bar, you can increase the width of a horizontal Scroll Bar first, and then increase the height. For a vertical Scroll Bar, increase the height first.
