Printing from Macintosh Apps in Gray Scale to HP DeskWriter

    The information in this article applies to:

    • Microsoft Fine Artist for the Macintosh, version 1.0
    • Microsoft Creative Writer for the Macintosh, version 1.0
    • Microsoft PowerPoint for the Macintosh, versions 2.x, 3.x, 4.0
    • Microsoft Works for the Macintosh, versions 1.x, 2.x, 3.x, 4.0

    SYMPTOMS

    When you try to print shaded, colored, or shadowed objects to a Hewlett- Packard DeskWriter printer, you receive black-and-white output.

    CAUSE

    There are three possible causes for this problem:

    • You are using the DeskWriter driver version 3.1 or earlier. (Earlier versions did not support gray scale.)
    • The Print In Grayscale option is not selected in the Print dialog box.
    • If you are using PowerPoint, the Black And White Only option is selected.

    RESOLUTION

    To correct this problem:

    1. Update the DeskWriter driver to version 3.9 or later.
    2. Make sure that Print In Grayscale is selected in the Print dialog box.

    NOTES:
    • When you are using version 3.9 of the DeskWriter driver, it reverts to black-and-white output each time you start a new program and each time you restart your Macintosh.
    • If you are using version 5.0 of the driver, Print In Grayscale remains the default after you select it.
