Replace Dialog Box Doesn't List All Styles

Last reviewed: August 4, 1997
Article ID: Q119301
The information in this article applies to:
  • Microsoft Word for the Macintosh, version 6.0
  • Microsoft Word for Windows, versions 6.0, 6.0a

SYMPTOMS

Word's built-in styles do not display when you choose the Format button to select a style in the Replace dialog box. (To locate this option, from the Edit menu, choose Replace, choose the Format button, then choose Style.) The only styles that display are those that have been used in the current document or those that are stored in the current template.

STATUS

Microsoft has confirmed this to be a problem in Word versions 6.0 and 6.0a for Windows and Word version 6.0 for the Macintosh. We are researching this problem and will post new information here in the Microsoft Knowledge Base as it becomes available.

RESOLUTION

While in the Replace dialog box, you can access Word's built-in styles with the Formatting toolbar. To do this, hold down CTRL+SHIFT and click on the down arrow next to the Style list box on the Formatting toolbar, then select the desired style. The Style you select will appear below the text in the Find What or Replace With box, depending on where your insertion point was when you selected the Style. Choose the Find Next or Replace button.
