SYMPTOMS

Envelopes created in Works 3.0 may print incorrectly on an Apple Laserwriter using version 3.58 of the Apple Laserwriter printer driver (PSCRIPT.DRV).

The return address text may not print, and only one or two lines of the mailing address text may print at the top of the envelope.

RESOLUTION

You can correct the problem by using either of the solutions described below.

Solution 1

Add an [Envelope] section to the MSWORKS3.INI file using the following steps:
  1. Exit Works.
  2. In Program Manager, choose Run from the File menu.
  3. In the Command Line box, type "MSWORKS3.INI" (without the quotation marks) and choose OK.
  4. Add the following section to the MSWORKS3.INI file

    [Envelope]
    Options=1
    LPTx=1

    where x is the local port being used (for example, LPT1, LPT2, and so on).

    NOTE: Be sure to include a blank line above and below the [Envelope] section to separate it from the other sections in the file.

    If the printer is an Apple Laserwriter II Plus, add this instead:

    [Envelope]
    Options=1
    LPTx=2

  5. From the File menu, choose Exit and Yes to save changes.

Solution 2

Install and use one of the Hewlett-Packard (HP) PostScript printer drivers to print envelopes. Consult your Laserwriter printer manual or Apple technical support for information about using different PostScript drivers.

MORE INFORMATION

The Laserwriter driver does NOT include "Envelope" as a choice for the paper size, so Works must create a custom paper size. Works defaults to print the envelope in a landscape orientation and assumes it will be center fed on the printer. Because most Laserwriter printers feed envelopes on the right edge, this causes the text to be cut off.
