SYMPTOMS
========
During the installation process of Microsoft Publisher for Windows,
you may receive the following error message
Application Execution Error
One of the library files needed to run this application is damaged.
Please reinstall this application.
-or-
Setup Initialization Error
and the message:
Cannot access required initialization file
You may also receive this error message when you run File Manager or choose
Run from the File menu in Program Manager, depending upon the MS-DOS
version installed, and the cause listed below.
CAUSE
=====
The SETUP.EXE file that ships with Publisher uses LZEXPAND.DLL to
decompress files from the installation disks. The above error can be
caused by several different situations:
1. Multiple instances of LZEXPAND.DLL located in directories that are in
the MS-DOS environment search PATH statement set by the AUTOEXEC.BAT
file.
2. The copy of LZEXPAND.DLL is corrupt.
3. The copy of SETUP.EXE on the Publisher installation disks is
corrupt or damaged.
NOTE: In this case, new disks may be obtained by calling Microsoft
Product Support Services. For information about how to contact
Microsoft Product Support, consult the user's guide for the Microsoft
product you have.
4. The copy of LZEXPAND.DLL that is accessed by SETUP.EXE does not
match the version of Windows currently running. The following
information provides the versions of Windows and the corresponding
files sizes of LZEXPAND.DLL that should be on the system when
each of these versions of Windows is running:

RESOLUTION
==========
To correct this problem:
1. Search the hard drive for all instances of LZEXPAND.DLL.
2. Delete or rename all instances of LZEXPAND.DLL found on the hard
drive.
3. Insert the disk from the original Microsoft Windows installation
disk set that contains the file LZEXPAND.DL_ into the floppy
drive of the computer.
NOTE: The disk containing the file LZEXPAND.DL_ varies depending
upon which version of the Microsoft Windows or Microsoft Windows for
Workgroups disks are used to extract the file.
4. From the WINDOWS\SYSTEM directory at the MS-DOS prompt, type the
following and press ENTER:
expand.exe a:\lzexpand.dl_ c:\windows\system\lzexpand.dll
This command expands a copy of the original file from the original
Windows or Windows for WorkGroups disk, and places it in the WINDOWS\SYSTEM
directory.
