------------------------------------------------------------------- The information in this article applies to: - Microsoft Publisher versions 2.0, 2.0 cd, 2.0a, and 2.0a cd ------------------------------------------------------------------- SYMPTOMS ======== During the installation process of Microsoft Publisher for Windows, you may receive the following error message Application Execution Error One of the library files needed to run this application is damaged. Please reinstall this application. -or- Setup Initialization Error and the message: Cannot access required initialization file You may also receive this error message when you run File Manager or choose Run from the File menu in Program Manager, depending upon the MS-DOS version installed, and the cause listed below. CAUSE ===== The SETUP.EXE file that ships with Publisher uses LZEXPAND.DLL to decompress files from the installation disks. The above error can be caused by several different situations: 1. Multiple instances of LZEXPAND.DLL located in directories that are in the MS-DOS environment search PATH statement set by the AUTOEXEC.BAT file. 2. The copy of LZEXPAND.DLL is corrupt. 3. The copy of SETUP.EXE on the Publisher installation disks is corrupt or damaged. NOTE: In this case, new disks may be obtained by calling Microsoft Product Support Services. For information about how to contact Microsoft Product Support, consult the user's guide for the Microsoft product you have. 4. The copy of LZEXPAND.DLL that is accessed by SETUP.EXE does not match the version of Windows currently running. Search the hard drive for all instances of LZEXPAND.DLL. 2. Delete or rename all instances of LZEXPAND.DLL found on the hard drive. 3. Insert the disk from the original Microsoft Windows installation disk set that contains the file LZEXPAND.DL_ into the floppy drive of the computer. NOTE: The disk containing the file LZEXPAND.DL_ varies depending upon which version of the Microsoft Windows or Microsoft Windows for Workgroups disks are used to extract the file. 4. From the WINDOWS\SYSTEM directory at the MS-DOS prompt, type the following and press ENTER: expand.exe a:\lzexpand.dl_ c:\windows\system\lzexpand.dll This command expands a copy of the original file from the original Windows or Windows for WorkGroups disk, and places it in the WINDOWS\SYSTEM directory.
