SUMMARY
To select a file or folder in Windows Explorer or My Computer, you must
click the filename or folder itself, not the details that appear to the
right of the filename or folder.
MORE INFORMATION
In File Manager, you can click any part of the line displaying a file's
details to select that file. In Windows Explorer and My Computer, you must
click the filename or folder name to select the corresponding file or
folder. Clicking the details does not select the file.
Windows Explorer and My Computer are designed to function this way because
they allow you to select multiple files or folders by using the mouse to
draw a rectangle around filenames or folders. If you were able to choose
files or folders by clicking the details in Windows Explorer or My
Computer, this "lasso" effect would not work.
