SYMPTOMS
When your document contains multiple sections and you create a header or
footer in a subsequent section, Word automatically replaces any previous
header or footer in addition to affecting subsequent sections.
This functionality is different than previous versions of Word for the
Macintosh, where adding a header or footer to a subsequent section
automatically disconnected it from the previous section.
CAUSE
All headers and footers are connected by default, so a change in one is
reflected in all others. This behavior is by design in Word.
RESOLUTION
To create a header or footer that does not replace previous headers or
footers, follow these steps:
- Position the insertion point in the section you want to change.
- On the View menu, click Header And Footer.
- Click the Same As Previous button on the Header And Footer toolbar to
deactivate (turn off) this setting.
NOTE: This option disconnects the section from previous sections but
does not disconnect it from subsequent sections.
