Works: Data Deleted with Protect Data on in Form View

SYMPTOMS

Even if a field is locked and protected, the data can still be deleted in the Database module's form view.

RESOLUTION

To resolve this problem, use one of the following methods:
  1. Switch to list view, and then back to form view. -or-

  2. Make sure the field is locked using the following steps to select the entire field and set protection to locked:

    1. In list view, place your cursor in the field you want to lock.
    2. From the Edit menu, choose Select Field.
    3. From the Format menu, choose Protection.
    4. Select the Locked check box and choose OK.

STATUS

Microsoft has confirmed this to be a problem in Works versions 3.0, 3.0a, and 3.0b for Windows. This problem has been corrected in Works 4.0 and later.

Steps to Reproduce Problem

  1. Create a new database.
  2. Create Field1: and Field2:.
  3. Fill Field1 with test1 and Field2 with test2.
  4. With the selection in Field1, choose Protection from the Format menu, and select Locked and Set Protect Data. Choose OK.
  5. Place the selection on Field2.
  6. Press the BACKSPACE key, and then press ENTER. The following error message occurs:
    Cannot change: locked.
  7. Choose OK to clear the error message.
  8. With the selection still on Field2, press DELETE.
Result: The data is deleted.

Expected: The data should not be deleted because Protect Data is on and the field is locked.
