PUB20: Publisher Installation Replaces Newer Dictionary
Q119928
-------------------------------------------------------------------------
The information in this article applies to:
- Microsoft Publisher versions 2.0, 2.0a
-------------------------------------------------------------------------
SYMPTOMS
========
When you install Microsoft Publisher, the SoftArt lexicon file
(Mssp_am.lex) and associated .dll file (Msspell.dll) that ship with
Publisher replace the Houghton-Mifflin lexicon file (Mssp2_en.lex) and
associated .dll file (Msspel2.dll) installed by Word for Windows, version
6.0, or Works for Windows, version 3.0.
CAUSE
=====
This problem occurs because Publisher, Word, and Works store the
dictionary files in the Windows\Msapps\Proof folder. When you install
Publisher, it will overwrite the spelling files installed by either Word
or Works.
