New Tasks Not Visible After Choosing "Open Your Last File"

SYMPTOMS

In Microsoft Project 4.0, if you choose the Open Your Last File button in the Welcome dialog box, new tasks that you enter may appear in the Project1 file (which is in the background) rather than in the active project.


CAUSE

This problem occurs only if the Tip Of The Day option is active when you start Microsoft Project.


WORKAROUND

To work around this problem, follow the appropriate procedure below:

Steps to Reproduce Behavior

  1. Create a file with several tasks and save it as PROJECT2.MPP.


  2. From the Tools menu, choose Options. On the General tab make sure that Show Tips At Startup and the Show Welcome Screen Dialog On Startup check boxes are selected.


  3. Quit Project.


  4. Restart Microsoft Project, and choose the Open Your Last File button in the Welcome screen.


  5. Choose OK in the Tip Of The Day dialog box.


  6. Select a blank cell in the Project2 file and type in a task.


NOTE: Any new tasks entered in Project2 do not appear. If you select Project1 from the Window menu, the new tasks entered in Project2 appear in this file.
