SYMPTOMS
When you print a large, complex PERT chart on a large plotter, some of the
link lines are not drawn, and some of the node borders are missing. You can
preview the chart correctly, but the printed document is incorrect.
CAUSE
The clipping region that Project creates is too complex for the plotter
driver you are using. When you print or preview a chart, Project creates a
metafile that is sent either to the screen or to the plotter driver. If the
plotter driver cannot handle the same complexity as the screen driver, some
of the link lines or node borders will be dropped when you print the chart.
RESOLUTION
You can print large, complex PERT charts successfully from Project version
4.0 to the Hewlett-Packard DesignJet 650c (with 12 megabytes of memory
installed) using the HP-GL/2 version 1.3 printer driver. No other printer
and driver combination has been successful yet.
NOTE: Version 1.4 of this plotter driver has been released. It does not fix this problem with plotters other than the Designjet mentioned in this article.
STATUS
Microsoft has confirmed that this is a problem in the Microsoft products that are listed at the beginning of this article.
