SYMPTOMS

If the task bars on a Gantt chart have left, right, top, bottom, or inside text, the dependency lines for the task bars are not present, and nonworking time is displayed in front of the task bars, the task bar text will not appear when you print or preview the Gantt chart.

RESOLUTION

To cause the task bar text to be printed or displayed correctly, either move the nonworking time behind the task bars, or do not display the nonworking time at all.

Note that the Gantt chart will still be displayed incorrectly when you preview it if only the dependency lines between the task bars are present. If nonworking time is displayed in front of the task bars, the task bar text for the last task in the linked chain will not be displayed.

Microsoft has confirmed this to be a problem in the Microsoft products that are listed at the beginning of this article.

Steps to Reproduce Behavior

1. Create three tasks named t1, t2, and t3 and link them together.



2. From the Format menu, choose Bar Styles.



3. In the Bar Styles dialog box, select the Task cell and then select the Text tab.



4. In the Left field, type Start.



5. In the Right field, type Finish, and then choose OK.



6. From the Format menu, choose Layout.



7. In the Links group, select the No Dependency Lines option button (the button on the left) and then choose OK.



8. From the Format menu, choose Timescale.



9. Select the Nonworking Time tab, and then in the Draw group select the In Front Of Task Bars option button. Choose OK. Note that the text around the task bars is displayed correctly.



10. From the File menu, choose Print Preview. Note that the text around the task bars is not displayed correctly.
