SYMPTOMS

Lotus Notes may stop responding (hang) after you run the Microsoft Excel 5.0 for the Macintosh Setup program.

CAUSE

An extension called "Shared Library Manager" is installed in the System Folder:Extensions folder when you install Microsoft Excel 5.0 for the Macintosh. This extension comes from Apple Computer, Inc. The latest version of this extension when Microsoft Excel shipped was v1.1.2.

With this version installed, Lotus Notes may hang.

WORKAROUND

To avoid tis problem with Lotus Notes, remove the Shared Library Manager extension. Removing this extension does not limit the functionality in Microsoft Excel. However, Microsoft Query will not work without this extension.

Lotus Notes is manufactured by Lotus Development Corporation, a vendor independent of Microsoft; we make no warranty, implied or otherwise, regarding this product's performance or reliability.
