PRB: Microsoft Access Cannot Find .MDX File

    Article ID: Q120537
    Creation Date: 14-SEP-1994
    Revision Date: 01-DEC-1996

The information in this article applies to:

    • Microsoft Access version 2.0, 7.0, 97

    SYMPTOMS

Moderate: Requires basic macro, coding, and interoperability skills.

When you link a dBASE IV file, Microsoft Access cannot find the appropriate .MDX file even though it exists and is named correctly, and no .INF file exists.

    CAUSE

There is a bit in dBASE IV files that indicates whether the file has an .MDX file. However, this bit may not be set correctly, and if it is not, Microsoft Access will not detect the .MDX file.

    RESOLUTION

Create an .INF file containing the path for the .MDX file so that Microsoft Access can find the .MDX file.
