WD: Using the Split Subdocument Icon May Create Empty Documents

SYMPTOMS
- No subdocument is created when you choose the Create Subdocument icon
and the active document is a one-paragraph document.
-or-
- Empty or "phantom" subdocuments appear in newly opened master documents.
These documents are often saved as M.DOC or M#.DOC, where # represents a
number starting at 1.
WORKAROUND
Click the subdocument icon, and then press DELETE to remove any empty
subdocuments.
STATUS
Microsoft has confirmed this to be a problem in the versions of Microsoft
Word listed at the beginning of this article.
